I had some time to kill the other day while I was out running some errands when it occurred to me that since I launched Pretty Serious back in May, my recreational nail polish purchases have dwindled to almost zero. I made up my mind that I was actually going to find something cool for myself so I ducked into Priceline to see what was happening. Nothing interesting from Revlon, L’oreal or Sally Hansen (not to mention pricey – did you know that Insta Dri’s are $13.95 here?) but I came up with a couple of beauties after fishing around in a little tub of Savvy polishes.
Savvy Black Cat & Black Martini
I’ve picked up some Savvy Polishes before and I was impressed with the quality. I’m not sure if these are new for Halloween, but I didn’t see these when I bought my last lot so I’m going to go with that.
Black Cat is a far more complex polish than it appears to be. At first glance it’s a rich black creme, but when you look closer, there is a teeny tiny rainbow coloured shimmer throughout. It dried very glossy too, which is a quality I adore in a good black polish. This is two coats, no top coat.
The rainbow shimmer particles that I was talking about are much more visible in the bottle than they are on the nail. I was pretty surprised by all the different colours. It’s so subtle, but it’s gorgeous.
I added a coat of Black Martini over the top and I think it looks stunning. Black Martini is a silver glitter polish in an ever so slightly tinted black base with a small amount of larger hex glitter in silver, red and I even spotted the odd green in there. There’s so few of them in there that you might only get one or two on each nail but I like the effect. Production error or intentional? Who knows? But I like it.
Savvy polishes are normally $2.99, but these rang up at $2.09 each for me at checkout from Priceline. (SCORE!) For the price, the quality is sensational. No issues with the formula, brush size (I’m looking at you, L’oreal) or drying time. If you have a Priceline local to you I suggest you check them out.
This post was intended for yesterday but scones happened, so I’ll be back later in the day today with your regularly scheduled Saturday Swatch Party.
