You know, maybe once I’ll forgive you for re-releasing a colour with a new name… but twice?!

Kinda makes that Limited Edition sticker in the middle there seem like a bit of a farce, huh? Judging from the bottle labels I would guess that Key Largo Lime is the oldest, followed by Appletini Time which would make Go Go Green the newest. Hot tip though, Maybelline – there’s no need to re-release a colour simply because you’ve been able to knock 10 seconds off your drying time.

Maybe I’m being too hard on them. I mean, I guess this is a good thing if you really wanted Key Largo Lime or Appletini Time but missed out. But then again, finding good green shades is hard enough as it is – there should have been two more unique greens in this lot. As far as I am aware, they were all US releases too. I would have been a tad more understanding if they had been released in different countries but that doesn’t appear to be the case.

Oh well. I leave you now with this Maybelline Ad from 1984 featuring Wonder Woman’s Lynda Carter. She was the face of Maybelline for many years and did a whole series of totally slutty sounding ads. Hilariously suggestive!

All of a sudden wives everywhere were wondering why their husbands gave a rats about lipstick…

Holy Guacamole! “Very soft, very wet, very moist” – egads! And yes, bad Maybelline, no biscuit!

  • Kaz

I know right? If you youtube ‘Lynda Carter Maybelline’ there’s a whole BUNCH of them!

That was the ’80s for you! Wonder Woman was my hero then, along with the Bionic Woman (Lindsay Wagner). I don’t care for Maybelline polishes as a rule, but really the same polish three times! It’s shameful!

  • Kaz

And with different names too! Way to fool the consumer Maybelline!

  • Meg

Wow – gotta love it! And I especially like how Appletini Time is labeled as “Limited Edition”. LOL!!! That is a pretty color, though. And that ad? OMG!

  • Kaz

Yeah not much of a limited edition! The ad is outrageous. I have no idea how they got away with that!

  • Lucy

Love this green. Very rotten thing to do. I found out from Niki on MagicMaid that the two latest collection from Sinful Colors are all polishes that were released before. They also gave them new names. I already had most of them. Very, very annoying!

  • Kaz

I know! I don’t like the feeling that they are trying to fool us! It’s hard enough sorting out dupes from other companies!

I had a similar odd experience with Maybelline today as well. I went into Priceline and noticed a whole bunch of “New Release” nail polishes. The first one I pick up is a pinky/coral creme – then I look at the name and see its called Sunset Prisms. I bought a bottle of “Sunset Prisms” last week from the same store and its an orange/red colour with green micro shimmer in it! WTH??!?!?! I don’t get why they do that! :P

  • Kaz

I hate it when they do that! That’s just as bad! They shouldn’t change a colour and give it a name that already exists! That’s confusing!

Ahhh Lynda Carter. She was such a sexpot back in those days! Drove all the guys nuts, my brothers included.
I’ve seen this color on the shelf about a billion times, who are they thinking they’re fooling? They must think their customers are idiots.

    • Kaz

She was ridiculously attractive, but the ad just confuses me. If men bought lipstick I could understand, but that is NOT a campaign aimed at women! I bet the execs didn’t care about the ad – they just wanted to put Lynda Carter in a pool so they could watch!

“Very moist. Very wet.” geez .. I need a shower now.

    • Kaz

      I know! Gross huh hahaha!
