At the end of my last post I mentioned doing Green September, and since I love green polish so much (and I have so much of it too) I have decided to go ahead with it! And for my first post I have picked something a little strange. Even now that the swatching is done and the photos are taken I’m still not sure how I feel about it.
Ammunition is vintage MAC, in the old frosted glass bottles. I have a few of these in a couple of different shapes (my bottle of Kloreen has a domed top instead of the square shape of this bottle) but I am not much of an expert on MAC so I don’t know when the bottle design was changed. I know it is pre-2007, but that’s about the best I can do towards dating this colour. Info on the internet is fairly sketchy for MAC pre-2008, when blogging took off and a lot more beauty info started doing the rounds.
I picked this up from a friend’s Storenvy sale. The colour is a lot greener than I was expecting. This Olive? Sage? is definitely cooler than RBL No More War, which is kind of what I was expecting this one to look like. The odd thing is, despite its age I really think this colour is pretty on trend right now. I’ve seen a few similar shades floating around recently from current brands. It’s funny how these kinds of ugly-pretty colours tend to cycle fashion wise.
The formula was a bit… awful. Probably a strong word because I eventually got there but damn did this polish make me work for it. My first attempt I stripped off completely and started over. For a creme it was quite thin. Not runny, but thin enough for me to have trouble getting it to level properly. I discarded a lot of swatch shots and even then I wasn’t totally happy with the ones that were left.
MAC Ammuniton is a great colour with a sub par formula but fear not, there are plenty of newer similar shades that will give you the same green with a lot less hassle. I’m a sucker for vintage though, so I am glad I bought this. I do, however, think it’s just going to chill in my helmer drawer though with some other MAC buddies until I forget how much I disliked the formula.
Day one of Green September is go! I know I have started it out on a somewhat down post, but trust me, I have some amazing stuff planned for the rest of the week!
