The last thing this little black duck needs is another brand to collect, but gosh darn it, I think I have found one. I’m lucky enough at the moment to have a friend who is heavily into buying polish from Japan like I was a few years back when I had cash to splash. I had accidentally smashed a Marie Claire polish I bought years back and I asked her to keep an eye out for it for me and before I could blink, she had sent me a link. It was the polish! And it came with friends! I told her to bid away and the rest is history.
When it arrived, I discovered that the polish I thought I had bought was actually a variation of the one I broke, with golden shimmers as well! But even more stunning than that, was this freaking amazing, retina searing neon green beast with incredible gold and silver flake shimmer. Are you seeing this shit? Because OMFG it is AMAZING.
Ladies and germs, please welcome GR89 to my stash. Yes, I know, the name sucks balls, but this seems to be how they name polishes in Korea and Japan, with the exception being Estessimo Tins. I freaking LOVE the names of those polishes. The Immediately Sexy. The Happy Milk. And my personal fave, THE URANUS. But sadly, this polish is not called The Radioactive Party Booger, but in my heart, it always will be. I wonder if the name GR89 means there are 88 OTHER GREEN MARIE CLAIRE SHADES?! *nailboner*
I’ve found neon polishes to be an utter pain in the arse in my experience and I was kind of expecting the worst from GR89. But I’ve never been happier to be put in my place because this is TWO COATS. With barely any VNL. I KNOW. I KNOW. IT’S LIKE AN ANGELS CHORUS. BUT FLUORESCENT GREEN. So, kinda like Toxic Avenger angels. OH! Toxic Avenger would be a great name for this polish. OH!! Someone needs to make a nail polish collection based on Troma characters. (hey, I have a polish brand!)
It’s far too easy for me to get sidetracked so I had better get back on track and continue talking about this polish. Apart from being an incredibly formulated bright green neon jelly, what makes it even more incredible is the gold and silver flake, swimming in that radioactive goo. It just takes it to a whole other level. Damn you, Marie Claire. Why didn’t I think of that?
Marie Claire nail polishes are sold in Japan, and that’s about the extent of my knowledge. All of mine have been bought second hand, so I have no idea where you might buy them at retail, how much they sell for or even if they are still available. What I do know is that I freaking LOVE this polish, and I can’t wait to swatch the orange version that I have as well. There is DEFINITELY more Marie Claire in Pretty Random’s Future.
